Join Ecole Bilingue de la Nouvelle-Orleans in celebrating New Orleans’ connection to French arts, food and culture during this year;s Fete Francaise, Vive Les Arts, March 8 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. under the oaks of Audubon Park.
This year’s Fete will celebrate Francophone art from throughout the world through a variety of cultural demonstrations, food, entertainment and children’s activities.
One of the highlights of each year’s festival is the food from the area’s top-tier restaurants. Fete this year will include food from La Crepe Nanou, La Provence, La Boulangerie, Lilette, Galatoire’s, Herbsaint, Cochon, Martinique Bistro, Cafe Degas, St. James Cheese Co., Leidenheimer Bread Co. and Jamila’s, among others. Beverages include champagne, cointreau and specialty cocktails from Remy Cointreau USA; various great wines from Beringer Vineyards, Elio’s Wine, Republic Beverage, and the Wine Seller; beer from Coyote Ugly and iced coffee from Cool Brew.
In addition to the great food, the festival will feature music from Wazozo, Dewey Sampson Jazz Ensemble, Free Agents Brass Band, Sunpie, and the fabulous Zulu Connection. Children’s games, face painting, Spacewalk and more will provide entertainment for kids of all ages. The Fete will also include a silent auction, featuring work from many talented local artists and a raffle. Local artists Frenchy and Amy McKinnon will be painting live and the paintings will go to the highest bidder.
Ecole Bilingue will also be selling t-shirts in all sizes, shopping bags, flags and a few extras designed by Ichabods. Some of this year’s hot items are ladies American Apparel t-shirts and shopping bags with popular French phrases as well as festival t-shirts featuring artwork by French artist Isabelle Jacopin.
Proceeds from Fete will support the French accredited Ecole Bilingue de la Nouvelle-Orleans, a French immersion school that currently serves 130 students from 18 months to 5th grade. The school has outgrown its current space, and proceeds from the festival will help fund the school’s move to a larger campus. The money will also be used to help finance the school’s generous scholarship program.
