October 1st: Feral Cat TNR…The Basics and Beyond Workshop, sponsored by the LA/SPCA will be held at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd., from 10:00am-Noon. A FREE humane education course for people with neighborhood cats. Learn the importance of Trap-Neuter-Return and find out about basic methods and equipment. Network and find area resources for low-cost spay/neuter, trap rental or purchase. Discover ways to advocate for neighborhood cats and gain support for TNR in the community. Get answers to your feral cat questions and how they apply to cat ordinances answered. Call 762-3306 for reservations or visit www.la-spca.org for more information.

October 1st: The Bulldog presents the second annual “New Orleans on Tap” Beer Festival to benefit the Louisiana SPCA at New Orleans City Park by the Big Lake Boathouse, from 2:00pm-7:00pm. Come sample over 200 beers, groove to live music by Rotary Downs and Flow Tribe, see the LA/SPCA Adoptables, grab some food and win great raffle prizes! Free admission and samples start at $1. Public transportation to the event is encouraged, and there will be free cab rides home courtesy of Southern Eagle. Bring your chairs and blankets! October 8th: An Adoption Option, sponsored by the LA/SPCA will be held at Heaven’s Pets, located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., from 11:00-2:00. LA/SPCA adoption counselors and volunteers will be on hand to help you select the right pet for your family. October 22nd: BARKtoberfest Canine Costume Contest & Trick or Treating (for dogs) will be held at Canine Connection, located at 4920 Tchoupitoulas St., from 4:00-8:00. Costume Contest registration fee is $5.00, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Louisiana SPCA. Music by the Hurricane Levee Band, prizes, games, giveaways, rescue dogs and snacks & refreshments (courtesy of Shaggie’s Boil, Slice Pizza and NOLA Brewing) available for a donation to the Louisiana SPCA.
