Freret Street a Finalist for the Markham Mark of Distinction $25,000 Award

August 12, 2010

Building on its history of community involvement and the tradition that began with the launch of its grant program two years ago, Markham Vineyards will again award $25,000 to two passionate and inspiring individuals committed to bettering their communities through impactful initiatives. This year, Kellie Grengs of The New Freret has entered the contest and is now a finalist for Markham Vineyards’ the Markham Mark of Distinction Award.

As part of the contest, which began August 10th and runs through September 9th, up to ten finalists will be featured on the Markham website for on-line voting, and the public will determine which two projects will receive funding.

The New Freret Volunteer Board Member, Kellie Grengs is a business and homeowner on the Freret Corridor and along with her colleagues; they have the goal to establish that Freret Street is a safe, vibrant, easily accessible destination to shop, work and live.

The award funds would support initiatives that include web development, local and regional marketing campaigns to promote and brand the corridor. James Carville recently noted, “Freret Street is the litmus of the Katrina recovery…”

Board Members, Neal Bodenheimer of Cure and David Lessinger of Neighborhood Housing Services share the enthusiasm about this opportunity to market Freret Street as a destination to shop local and support small businesses.

The New Freret hopes others will share the enthusiasm and vote on-line to make this dream a reality by voting on-line everyday at www.markhammarkofdistinction.com
