The Lake Pontchartain Basin Foundation and Doerr Furniture will team up for a special tree planting program on March 24 in Metairie’s Bucktown.
Oak trees and cypress trees will be planted along a future walking path to enhance the viewing area of the marsh. In the coming months, signage will be placed educating the public about the value of wetlands to protect levees that in turn protect people.

This planting will be done adjacent to the Bucktown marsh that was created in 2003 as a mitigation project. LPBF has been monitoring the site for six years and the marsh is very healthy.

“In this endeavor, Doerr is fulfilling its promise to the community to plant trees,” said David Mutter with Doerr Furniture. “We are participating in this project because we are the leading retailer of solid wood furniture in the greater New Orleans area.”
