Independent America: Rising from Ruins shows a different version of post-Katrina New Orleans, taking a hard yet hopeful look at the risks and rewards of small business ownership in the days, months and years since the disaster. A screening at 6 pm on Wednesday, July 1, of the documentary at Octavia Books will kick off “Independents” Week in New Orleans. Local activities are part of a national event honoring the contribution of local independents and the community spirit of people who work in them.
