StayLocal is Greater New Orleans' Independent Business Alliance. We promote the cultural, social, and monetary values of a local economy rooted in local ownership & entrepreneurship. StayLocal is a non-profit, member-serving organization and our mission is to create an environment for local business to thrive. StayLocal educates consumers on the benefits of keeping their dollars local, promotes independent shops and service providers, and helps businesses stay competitive through workshops, networking events, and policy work. StayLocal is an initiative of the Urban Conservancy, a New Orleans-based nonprofit founded in 2001.

 

Job Description:

The Program Manager is in charge of day-to-day operations as well as big-picture strategic planning and reports to the Executive Director. This position is ideal for self-starters, network builders, and those seeking a leadership role.  Only those passionate about New Orleans and the local businesses that contribute to its unique character and economy need apply. Some evening and weekend work required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct overall delivery of existing StayLocal programming, as well as develop new initiatives and events based on needs of local business community.

  • Oversee all aspects of membership development and retention: assisting existing members with excellent service and programs, growing membership by recruiting new members.

  • Plan and execute StayLocal events including workshops, networking events, and fundraisers.

  • Manage all communications channels, including social media, email, website, and press.

  • Facilitate current public policy advocacy efforts and identify future campaigns.

  • Foster strategic partnerships with government, private sector, and non-profits.

  • Manage Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the City of New Orleans to support businesses affected by road construction.

  • Meet fundraising targets through sponsorships, grants, etc. 

  • Oversee staff and interns.

 

Critical Competencies:

  • Strong project management and administrative skills with demonstrated ability to set concrete goals, organize, and prioritize.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including enjoyment of public speaking.

  • Digital and traditional marketing expertise, including expressing brand voice and maintaining brand consistency across a variety of platforms (Experience with Facebook advertising, and/or Google Ads preferred).

  • Professional event planning experience.

  • Demonstrated success with program and campaign management.

  • Data management abilities (Salesforce or other CRM software preferred).

  • A deep and passionate understanding of why independent businesses are crucial to our community's economic success.

  • Reliably follows through on commitments, and lives up to verbal and written agreements.

  • Must be proactive and able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision.

  • Possess a strong work ethic and willingness to work hard to get the job done.

  • Ability to solicit feedback and react calmly to criticism or negative feedback. 

  • Access to reliable transportation with ability to transport event and marketing materials.

  • Ability to work independently and set work direction, as well as manage and lead teams.

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, public policy, urban planning, or related field.  

  • Minimum 2+ years professional experience in nonprofit, business, marketing, public agency, community economic development, or related fields a plus.

  • Knowledge of standard word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software, G-suite, and web proficiency. 

  • Graphic design and/or Adobe Creative Suite skills prefered.

 

Compensation:

$40,000+ annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Urban Conservancy also offers a competitive benefits package including healthcare, retirement, paid time off, and professional development.
