Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across the country and is part of the larger Shop Small Movement. It is celebrated nationally each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. Since it started in 2010, consumers have reported spending an estimated $200 billion at small businesses on the day (source). According to the American Express 2022 Small Business Economic Impact Study, with every dollar spent at a small business in the US, 68 cents stays in the local community.

For consumers, shopping or dining out on Small Business Saturday is helping small businesses and communities thrive, showing your support for the small businesses in your neighborhood, across town, or by shopping local online.

To opt in and add your voice to the chorus singing the Shop Small message this year, please contact maryann@staylocal.org.

Weather Cause and Effect: Insights for Smarter Business Planning

Statistics show that forecasting methods and sources of weather information have improved in many ways. Business interruptions caused by weather can be effectively managed with the right strategic approach. We've invited meteorologist David Gilhousen to help us learn how.

David Gilhousen worked as a marine meteorologist for the National Weather Service for over 30 years training forecasters, developing web sites, testing instruments, and writing scientific papers. When he retired a decade ago, friends asked him for advice on evacuating during hurricane threats, so returned to the weather business. He now publishes daily forecasts on his website and posts You Tube videos. He'll join us to present information that inspires the intelligent use of weather forecasts, and take questions from attendees.

This is hosted by StayLocal together with LCIA, the member services arm of LCI Worker’s Comp, a group self-insurance fund operating in Louisiana since 1989. To watch the webinar recording, please follow this link to StayLocal’s You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@StayLocalNOLA .
